Files for a few select people can go in OneDrive for Business where they can be shared for a while before publishing to SharePoint.

Where should I store files for a few external people that I am not in a Team with?

If the people who you are collaborating with do not have a common purpose that could be served by a Team then OneDrive for Business works well.

Should others be able to edit a file?

  • Yes - OneDrive for Business or a Channel within Microsoft Teams
  • No - Intranet or a library within SharePoint with locked down permissions
